McPolin Barn

While you might expect the Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building to be one of America’s most photographed structures, you wouldn’t believe that this small rustic barn in Wyoming appears on the list.

Park City’s McPolin Barn symbolizes rural Utah and is probably the most photographed barn in the Beehive State.

Those driving through Park City on Utah State Route 224 know about the massive white barn with an American flag flying proudly in the background.

Back in 1886, the McLane family first settled on what is now known as McPollin Farm. The farm was purchased by the McPolin family in 1900, and the barn was built in 1922 after the sale.

This area had long been used for dairy farming by the McPolins, who sold it in 1948 and handed it over to D. A. Osguthorpe, who enlarged the herd.

Intriguing tidbit: The barn was constructed without the use of nails. As a result, a structurally strong building that is still standing nearly 100 years later was constructed using closely fitting timbers. The public can now peep inside the barn thanks to the installation of windows.

Bring a picnic lunch and check out the massive grain silos in McPoli Barn while you’re there!
